Using Bloom's Taxonomy to Grow Your Students
"One of the beauties of teaching is that there is no limit to one's growth as a teacher, just as there is no knowing beforehand how much your students can learn."

Today student need skills that will help them solve problems and think critically both in and out of the classroom. Thinking critically strengthens the brain and helps student connect what they learned in the past to their current knowledge. We will be using the revised Bloom’s Taxonomy and the Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy to ensure our students are engage in educational practices of the 21st century.
The Bloom’s model supports the need to differentiate the instruction so that all students are able to participate in the same content area during a lesson, focuses students on learning outcomes and creates an active classroom, and used as a teaching tool to plan and implement relevant and meaningful instruction. Our goal at A.V. Cato is to use Bloom’s to encourage higher-order thoughts by building our students cognitive skills and levels.

Professional Development - Bloom's Taxonomy
Examples of how I will embed technology into our learning session: Remembering: Have teachers teachers think about/then share out with their PLC partner what they remember about the levels of Bloom's. After sharing, utilize any device to further research and once again, share and discuss with their PLC partner new details about Bloom's. Understanding: Teachers will work with their PLC partners to go through flashcards that have been created in Study Stack using the following link: http://www.studystack.com/users/HConner The cards have a Bloom's level on one side and descriptive verbs on the other side. Applying: Teachers will get into groups and create a visual representation (no words) of Bloom's taxonomy. After completion, they will take a picture and use fotobabble to describe their representation. These will be tweeted to our #immspd tweet chat and time will be given for groups to view other representations. Analyzing: PLC partners will develop a bubbl.us concept map that has each level of Bloom's listed, then give 5 question stem examples for each level of Bloom's. Sample: https://bubbl.us/?h=21cb15/44b2b1/22QbnCYcSfrcE&r=1103248808 Evaluating: Tasks of various content areas and levels of Bloom's will be displayed. Teachers will evaluate each task and use polldaddy.com to vote on the level of Bloom's. We will do partner share/discussion about the top two choices, then discuss as a whole group. Link: http://hopeconner.polldaddy.com/s/what-level-of-bloom-s Creating: Teachers will take all they they have learned about the levels of Bloom's and create their own question stems and tasks that encourage higher order thinking for their first six weeks unit. Working with their PLC partner(s), each group will create a product showing topics being studied, 10 HOT question stems for each topic, and 10 tasks that are at the higher level of Bloom's. They can use any app that they find appropriate, as long as they follow the Rubistar created evaluation tool. |
